Windward and mauka lots can hold stormwater in heavy red clay, while other ground may shed water quickly through volcanic soil or coral. #4 Crushed Stone has open voids between its crushed pieces, which lets water travel through the aggregate during wet conditions. Those pieces also resist shifting when the material is supporting a traffic area or pad.
Use #4 Crushed Stone below the finished surface of a cinder driveway or site access area where a draining stone course is needed. It can also be placed for storm-drainage work or erosion control where runoff crosses a slope or ditch. In Hawaii, the placement should focus on giving rainfall a route through the stone and away from the built surface above it.

Solid farm road up in Kona hills

Delivery ran late but material's solid
