Drain Rock in Hawaii

Storm runoff can build quickly on Hawaii windward and mauka lots where heavy red clay stays saturated. Drain Rock provides a clean drainage zone behind a retaining wall, in a French drain, or around a septic leach field so water has open spaces through the aggregate. Washing leaves out dust and fine material that could settle into those spaces and slow the intended flow.

For retaining-wall backfill on a wet site, place angular Drain Rock in the section where water needs to travel. Its interlocking pieces help retain the open structure when soil is placed above it. Rounded Drain Rock can be used in an exposed landscape drainage feature where its natural appearance works with the finished area. On leeward ground with faster-draining volcanic soil or coral, the same clean stone layer can direct storm water through the drainage portion of the build.

French Drain Systems

Use drain rock as the open aggregate layer in a French drain. It gives stormwater a path away from footings and other low spots, which is especially useful on saturated windward lots.
